LOCAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY RECEIVES AUTHORIZATION TO BUILD THE FIRST FIBER OPTIC CABLE TO CUBA

MIAMI, FL -- October 5, 2009 -- Under licenses granted by the U.S. Government, Department of the Treasury (OFAC), TeleCuba Communications, Inc. will become the first to install a direct fiber optic subsea cable between the United States and Cuba and the first U.S. based company to provide for U.S. cellular phones to roam on the Cuban cellular network. TeleCuba has also aligned itself with one of the nation’s largest cellular providers to establish its own branded cellular phone which will have the ability to call and roam in Cuba.

The fiber optic cable should be fully operational by the second quarter of 2011.  Once in service, the use of the fiber optic cable will eliminate all satellite communication between the U.S. and Cuba. The new cable will allow for an array of new telecommunication products and services such as high speed internet to be offered to the Cuban people, which are not feasible using satellite communications.

Telecuba will be supported by Great Eastern Group (www.greateasterngroup.com) who is responsible for system design, construction, installation and maintenance.  Great Eastern Group will be working in conjunction with WFN Strategies (www.wfnstrategies.com) in providing these services.

Telecuba first applied for the license to build the fiber optic cable in 2000, however, due to policies enacted by the Bush administration, its request to build the cable was held up. Since project inception, TeleCuba has been in negotiations with major entities to ensure that its cable meets all environmental regulations. Additionally, TeleCuba has agreements to provide for the hookup of multiple subsea science nodes on the fiber optic cable for use by major universities for educational and research
